Wolverines Begin WHAC Season at Lourdes Saturday

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team is set for its 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener on the road against Lourdes University on Saturday.

The Wolverines enter play this weekend with a record of 1-3-0 overall under first-year head coach Worteh Sampson. UM-Dearborn dropped a high-scoring contest 6-4 to Georgetown College to open the season before earning its first win in the home opener over Olivet College 2-1.

UM-Dearborn has lost its last two games, including a 1-0 defeat to a strong Huntington University squad on Sept. 7 and falling 2-1 on the road at Adrian College on Sept. 14.

In last year's meeting with Lourdes, UM-Dearborn dropped a tough 1-0 contest to the Gray Wolves. The Wolverines were able to rebound and earned a WHAC Postseason Tournament bid for the first time in five years.

The home portion of the WHAC schedule starts with a matchup against Cleary University on Oct. 5, which will begin a run of four out of five games at home for UM-Dearborn. Senior Day will take place against Indiana Tech on Nov. 2 at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

Senior Grant Baker is the lone Wolverine with multiple goals this season, recording two in the first four games, while freshman Christian Cuevas leads the team in total shots with 11. Freshman goalkeeper Brian Ostapenko has started all four games for the Wolverines making 15 saves and has a record of 0-3-0.
