Adrian College takes two from Wolverines

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team returned to action taking on the Adrian College Bulldogs in a home and home weekend-series on Oct. 7th in Adrian, Mich. and Oct. 8th in Dearborn, Mich. 

On Thursday night, the Wolverines and Bulldogs would trade off one goal leads, however it would take a shootout to determine the winner, with Adrian coming out on top to earn the 3-2 win over UM-Dearborn.

The Wolverines would find themselves in the lead after one period of play when Billy Brock found the back of the net with Nathan Magier getting the assist, the first point of his career. Adrian College would respond in the second period when Matteo DiGiulio connect with Tyler Fyfe at the 5:07 mark.

Special teams would shine in the third, as both clubs connect on the power play, just 45 seconds apart. Nash Hatcher gave the Bulldogs a brief one-goal advantage from Henrik Overall, however Jared Lee would tie the game, as he was set up by Brendan West and Adam Groat

The two teams would play a scoreless three-on-three overtime period, however it was Adrian College that would come out on top in the shootout 3-1, on its way to a 3-2 victory. 

Both goalies stood tall as Noah Decottignies made 30 saves for the Bulldogs, while Kayden Pickles would make 48 saves.

On Friday night, the UM-Dearborn offense had hard time getting things going as the Bulldogs would connect twice in the opening period, while adding two more along the way for a 4-0 win over the Wolverines. 

Leading the way for Adrian College was Chris Donaldson and Sam Spaedt, both with a goal and two assists, while Harrison Fleming got the shutout in goal, making 26 saves on the night.

Tanner Beals got the start in goal for UM-Dearborn, making 23 saves.

The sweep drops the Wolverines to 2-4-0 overall on the season.

The Wolverines return to action as they open the WHAC portion of the 2021-22 season by taking on the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Friday, Oct. 15th (@LTU) and Oct. 16th (@UM-D).
