UNOH rallies twice to sweep UM-Dearborn

LIMA, Ohio – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team dropped a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series against the University of Northwestern Ohio Wednesday in Lima, Ohio.

The Wolverines led early in both contests but the Racers rallied to earn a sweep with 7-3 and 11-9 wins. The losses drop UM-Dearborn to 17-19-1 overall and 7-12-1 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn led game one in the second after RBIs from Amy Jarrett, Rachel Clem, and Amber Cheplick. The Racers scored seven unanswered runs to capture the win. Madelin Skene took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs, two earned on eight hits, while walking two and striking out two.

The Wolverines, jumped out to a quick lead in game two, leading 6-0 after three innings. Kayla Laquiere opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first, while Amy Jarrett added an RBI triple in the third. UM-Dearborn led 9-5 in the fourth after a home run from Skene. UNOH scored the last six runs for the win.

Skene was charged with her second loss of the day, allowing three runs, one earned in three innings of relief. Laquiere and Jarrett each finished with three hits.

The Wolverines close the 2019 season on Saturday starting with the resumption of a tie game against Lawrence Tech at 11:30 am at Concordia University. The game will resume in the top of the sixth inning tied at 1-1, followed by a makeup game against Aquinas College at approximately 1 pm.
