Clem with two home runs in sweep of Warriors

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team got back on track in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a sweep of Rochester College Wednesday in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The Wolverines used a pair of home runs and an excellent outing from Ashlynn Henderson to take game one 4-0. UM-Dearborn scored four runs in the fifth inning and held on for a 6-3 victory in game two.

The sweep pushes UM-Dearborn to 15-12-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the WHAC.

Henderson carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of game one and held the Warriors off the board, pitching seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out two to improve to 6-3 on the season.

Amber Cheplick got the Wolverines on the board with an RBI in the first inning. Madelin Skene doubled the UM-Dearborn lead with a solo home run in the sixth. Rachel Clem hit a solo home run in the seventh, while Sarah Prashad added an RBI later in the inning.

Skene and Amy Jarrett each finished with two hits and a run scored.

After the Warriors took an early 2-0 lead in game two, Clem got UM-Dearborn going with her second home run of the day in the fourth. The Wolverines got four runs in the fifth, including RBIs from Skene and Clem, while Skene added an RBI single in the sixth.

Skene finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Prashad added two hits and a run scored. Skene (3-3) got the win in relief, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit while walking one and striking out one. Henderson (3) closed the game to earn the save, pitching 1.2 scoreless, allowing three hits and striking out three.

The Wolverines return home for three doubleheaders this weekend starting against Madonna University at noon Friday at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.
