Wolverines drop two on day two in SC

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team dropped a pair of games at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic Sunday in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Wolverine offense was shut down against Chestnut Hill College in a 5-0 loss. UM-Dearborn rallied late against Mansfield University, but the Wolverines left the bases loaded in the seventh as they fell 7-5.

The losses snap a four-game win streak and move UM-Dearborn to 6-4 on the season.

Against Chestnut Hill, the Wolverines were held to three hits, including a double from Leah Oldham. Julie St. John (0-1) got the start on the mound for UM-Dearborn, allowing two runs on three hits, while walking three in 1.1 innings.

Madelin Skene pitched 4.2 innings in relief, allowing three runs on six hits, walking three and striking out four.

In the second game of the day, UM-Dearborn battled back and forth with Mansfield until the Mountaineers took control with four runs in the sixth inning. The Wolverines rallied in the seventh, loading the bases with the first three batters. Two UM-Dearborn walks drove in a pair, but Mansfield held on for the win.

Makenna Millhorn finished with two hits, including a double, while Saraha Prashad added two hits. Aspen Starr recorded a triple and Olivia Cottom added an RBI double.

Samantha Torongeau got the start on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, walking three and striking out two. Ashlynn Henderson (2-1) was charged with the loss in relief, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned on five hits, walking two and striking out three.

The Wolverines return to action with a rematch against Mansfield at 11:30 am Monday in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., followed by a game against Union College at 1:30 pm.
