Softball drops two at Siena Heights (RV)

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team dropped two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games to Siena Heights University (RV) Monday in Adrian, Mich.

The Wolverines battled back to tie a low-scoring game at 1-1 in the seventh inning, but the Saints walked off with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to take the opener. Siena Heights rallied from a 7-5 deficit with four runs in the fourth and six in the sixth to pull away for a 15-8 win in game two.

The losses drop UM-Dearborn to 12-8 overall and 2-2 in the WHAC.

Ashlynn Henderson, who was named the WHAC Pitcher of the Week earlier in the day, pitched strong in game one, allowing one run on four hits in 5.1 innings. Madeline Skene (2-1) took the loss in relief.

The Wolverines scored their lone run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single from Amy Jarrett.

In game two, the Wolverines trailed 5-1 after the second, but the middle of the UM-Dearborn batting order used the long ball to start a fifth-inning rally. Skene hit a grand slam to tie the game at 5-5, while Leah Oldham, the next batter, hit a solo shot to put the Wolverines in front.

Siena Heights scored 10 runs the rest of the way to pull away and secure the sweep.

Jarrett and Skene each finished with three hits, while Sarah Prashad, Megan Lohner, and Oldham each added two. Samantha Torongeau (1-3) took the loss on the mound in relief.

The Wolverines return to action against Lawrence Tech at 3:30 pm Thursday at Northville High School in Northville, Mich.
