Softball drops WHAC series at Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team dropped two games to Cleary University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday in Howell, Mich.

The Wolverines led early in both games, but the Cougars took game one 2-1 and the finale 7-3. The losses drop UM-Dearborn to 13-12-1 overall and 3-6-1 in league play.

In game one, Ashlynn Henderson kept the Wolverines in the game throughout. The junior tossed six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, walking three and striking out three.

UM-Dearborn took the lead in the second inning with a run on a Cleary error. The Cougars tied the game with an unearned run in the third and scored the game-winning run in the fifth on an RBI single.

The Wolverines were held to three hits in the loss, including a double for Kayla Laquiere.

UM-Dearborn took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two on RBIs from Skene and Amber Cheplick. The Cougars scored the next seven runs, including four in the third to pull away.

Skene finished with three hits, a run scored and an RBI, while Megan Lohner and Cheplick each added two hits. Skene (2-3) took the loss on the mound with 4.2 innings pitched, allowing seven runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out three.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Rochester College at 3:30 pm Wednesday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
