Concordia takes two from UM-Dearborn Softball

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team rallied late in both games against Concordia University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Despite the late scoring, the Wolverines dropped two games to the Cardinals, falling 4-3 in eight innings in game one. UM-Dearborn scored six times in the seventh inning of the finale, but failed to even the score in a 7-6 loss.

The losses drop UM-Dearborn to 13-10-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the WHAC.

Amber Cheplick gave the Wolverines their only lead of the day with a solo home run to make it 1-0 in the second inning of game one. The Cardinals answered with three runs in the third. Madeline Skene evened the score for the Wolverines with a two-run home run in the seventh, her second of the week, before Concordia won on a walk-off with a run in the eighth.

Skene finished with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored, while Sarah Prashad added two hits and a run scored.

Ashlynn Henderson (5-2) took the loss, pitching 7.1 innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on nine hits, while walking two and striking out four.

Concordia led the second game 7-0 heading to the seventh, but the Wolverines battled back in their final at-bat. The inning got going with an RBI single from Rachel Clem followed by an RBI single from Prashad. Skene and Makenna Millhorn each added two-run singles before the Cardinals were able to close the door.

Kayla Laquiere was the lone Wolverine with two hits, while Skene (2-2) took the loss on the mound.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play with a doubleheader at Cleary University at 1 pm Sunday in Howell, Mich.
