NORTHVILLE, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team rallied late for a game-one win over Lawrence Tech before darkness caused game two to end tied in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday at Northville High School in Northville, Mich.

Madelin Skene hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to give UM-Dearborn the lead and the Wolverines held on for a 7-6 win in the opener. The Blue Devils tied game two at 1-1 in the fifth inning of game two before darkness forced the contest to be called, ending the finale in a tie.

The results move UM-Dearborn 13-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines took an early 2-1 lead in game one with third-inning RBIs from Megan Lohner and Skene. LTU took control with a run in the third and two in the fifth. UM-Dearborn entered its final at-bat down 5-3, setting the stage for a Skene's home run. Amber Cheplick added an RBI single later in the seventh to give the Wolverines an additional run.

Skene finished with three hits, four RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base, while Lohner and Cheplick each added two hits.

Ashlynn Henderson moved to 5-1 on the mound with a complete game. She pitched seven innings, allowing six runs, five earned on 14 hits, while walking two and striking out one.

Skene put UM-Dearborn up early with an RBI single in the first inning of game two. She also got the start on the mound, tossing all five innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out four.

LTU tied the game on a bunt single in the fifth inning before the game was called.

Officially, the game is a 1-1 tie. If the result of the game will factor into the regular season conference championship or a spot in the WHAC Postseason tournament, the contest will resume at a time, date and location to be determined later in the season.

UM-Dearborn continues WHAC play this weekend against Concordia University at 1 pm Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
