WOLVERINES FALL IN WHAC OPENER TO WARRIORS

The Wolverines and Warriors went back and forth in the first two sets, but the home team prevailed in both. The Wolverines rebounded for a win in the third, but a fast start for the Warriors in the fourth led to a four-set win for Indiana Tech. The set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18. The loss drops the Wolverines to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.

The UM-Dearborn offense was led by senior Shayla Smalls (SR/Canton, MI) with eight kills, while junior Katherine Nealy (JR/Southfield, MI) added six and freshman Gina Giacomini (FR/Plymouth, MI) chipped in with five. Setter Daniella Barile (SO/Plymouth, MI) recorded a team-high 12 assists, while junior Jayci Forster (JR/Belleville, MI) had a UM-Dearborn best three service aces. 

The Wolverine defense was led at the net by Nealy, who finished with four solo blocks and three block assists, while senior Bri Alspaugh (SR/St. Louis, MI) added five solo blocks and one block assist. Junior Libero Heather Roberts (JR/Flint, MI) finished with 14 digs, while freshman Samantha Nash (FR/Roseburg, OR) added 13 digs. 

UM-Dearborn finished with 30 kills, 30 errors, and a .000 hitting percentage. The Wolverines were successful blocking all night, totaling nine solo blocks and nine block assists while committing zero blocking errors. 

The Wolverines play two more WHAC road contests this weekend, starting with a matchup against Concordia University at 7 p.m. Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
