Despite a marathon second frame, the Wolverines pulled away from Carlow University for a three-set win (25-17, 34-32, 25-17) to open the final day of the event. UM-Dearborn dropped the final match of the weekend in three (25-17, 25-15, 25-21) to Judson University to move to 2-2 overall.
Shayla Smalls (SR/Canton, MI) continued to shine early in her final season with the Wolverines, recording a team-high 12 kills in the win over Carlow. Erin Parrinello (JR/Westland, MI) and Gina Giacomini (FR/Plymouth, MI) each added nine kills, while Daniella Barile (SO/Plymouth, MI) recorded a team-high 20 assists and 10 digs. Caitlyn Carlson (JR/Armada, MI) provided a spark for UM-Dearborn in the first set recording three straight service aces. She added six digs in the win.
Smalls had a team-high in kills in the finale against Judson, recording eight, while Gina Giacomini added five. Libero Heather Roberts (JR/Flint, MI) led the Wolverine defense with 15 digs.
The Wolverines are set to head to New Orleans, La., for four matches next weekend, starting with a showdown against Texas Wesleyan University (RV) at Noon on Friday.
