Wolverines take finale with Warriors

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team returned to the win column, topping the No. 25 ranked Indiana Tech Warriors 4-1 Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

Jeff McFarland (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) got the scoring started for UM-Dearborn with his third tally of the weekend. His goal late in the first period gave the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes. The victory improved their record to 15-6-1 on the season and 7-5 in the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League, while improving to 14-2 at home.

The Wolverines also received goals from Kevin Bechard (SO/Trenton, Mich.), Troy Saunders (SO/Canton, Mich.), and the game-winning tally from John Barlow (SO/Shelby Twp, Mich.). Andrew Spiegel (SO/Riverview, Mich.) finished the night with two assists while Gino Darin (SR/Allen Park Mich.), Justin Dunn (FR/Trenton, Mich.) and Nic LaBurn (SO/Northville, Mich.) each added one.

Thomas Proudlock (SO/Southgate, Mich.) recorded his eighth victory of the season, making 32 saves.

The Wolverines outshot the Warriors 41-33 and went 1-for-5 with the man advantage. They also went 5-for-6 on the penalty kill and killed off a lengthy 5-on-3 early in the first period.

UM-Dearborn hosts Kent State University next weekend in a back-to-back GLCHL matchup starting 7:30 p.m. Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
