No. 12 UM-Dearborn falls to No. 4 Davenport in GLCHL Opener

DEARBORN, Mich. - The No. 12 University of Michigan-Dearborn ice hockey team fell for the first time this season, dropping the 2016-17 Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League opener to No. 4 Davenport University 5-2 Friday at the Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.

The Wolverines (2-1, 0-1 GLCHL) fell behind early as the Panthers (4-0, 3-0 GLCHL) scored 4:25 into the game and added another 10 minutes later to head into the first intermission up a pair. UM-Dearborn cut the lead to one with a goal from Marcus McSweeney (JR/Chandler, Ariz.) on the power play early in the second, but the Panthers answered with three unanswered to take a 5-1 lead.

Andrew Palushaj (JR/Livonia, Mich.), who had the lone assist on the McSweeney goal, chipped one in late in the second to make it 5-2, but the Wolverines were unable to get any closer. UM-Dearborn outshot Davenport 36-34.

Nate Ferris made his third straight start for the Wolverines, allowing five goals on 24 shots through two periods. Thomas Proudluck came in to take over in the third, stopping all 10 shots he faced.

Five different Panthers scored in the Davenport win.

The two teams have little time to rest as the series moves to Davenport for the finale at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
