No. 10 Wolverines sweep No.5 RMU with 4-2 win

DEARBORN, Mich. - Coming off a nail-biting shootout victory Friday night, the No. 10 University of Michigan-Dearborn's men's ice hockey team once again came from behind to defeat the No. 5 Robert Morris University-Illinois Eagles 4-2 on Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The victory was the 10th straight for the Wolverines who are looking to once again rise in the ACHA rankings after sweeping a highly ranked team. UM-Dearborn moves to 14-5-1.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the first period, the Wolverines used a strong performance in the second period to get in front of the Eagles. Gino Darin (SR/Allen Park Mich.) scored the game-tying goal just two minutes into the middle frame and Kevin Bechard (SO/Trenton, Mich.) followed that up with two more tallies in the second period to give the home team a two-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

Justin Dunn (FR/Trenton, Mich.)'s tally midway through the third made it 4-2 for the Wolverines and Robert-Morris was held off the scoresheet for the final 19 minutes of play.

Thomas Proudlock (SO/Southgate, Mich.) started and won for the second consecutive night. His strong performance saw him make 31 saves, including a breakaway. The first-year goalie has now matched Nate Ferris with seven wins this season as the two have split duties for a majority of the season.

The Wolverines outshot the Eagles 49-33 and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Jeff McFarland (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Tyler Groat (SO/Wyandotte, Mich.) picked up assists on the lone power-play goal.

UM-Dearborn looks to extend its winning streak to 11 games against Indiana Tech at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Fort Wayne, Ind. Game two of the weekend series will shift to the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena on Saturday.
