Urso, Groat, Dunn Take ACHA National Honors

DEARBORN, Mich.- In March, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team made a run to the ACHA National quarterfinals, capping off a 2016-17 season that included a second straight GLCHL Playoff title and a win over the No. 1 team in the nation.

The ACHA honored three members of the 2016-17 team in postseason awards, it was announced last week. Defenseman Ryan Urso (JR/Livonia, Mich.) and forward Tyler Groat (SO/Wyandotte, Mich.) were both named to the ACHA First Team, while first-year standout Justin Dunn (FR/Trenton, Mich.) took All-Rookie Team honors.

Urso capped off his stellar career with the Wolverines with another outstanding season, which saw him join Groat on Team USA at the World University Games. Urso finished the season with 20 assists and six goals, including a crucial tally in the first game of the ACHA National Tournament. The team captain made his presence felt all over the ice, especially on the defensive end, helping to shutdown opposing offenses.

Groat led the Wolverine offense throughout the season, finishing with a team-high 44 points and 31 goals, while adding 15 assists in his second year with the program. During the team's GLCHL playoff run, Groat found the back of the net nine times in three UM-Dearborn wins.

Dunn made an immediate impact on the UM-Dearborn offense, leading the team with 27 assists, to go along with 14 goals. In the first weekend of the season, Dunn netted three goals and added an assists in two UM-Dearborn wins.
