Men's Basketball Downs Madonna 59-57

Dearborn, MI - The men's basketball team made it two wins in a row on Wednesday night as they defeated the visiting Madonna University Crusaders 59-57. Madonna (13-14, 10-9) jumped out to an early 10-3 lead. Michigan-Dearborn (14-13, 9-10) quickly turned that seven point deficit into a two point lead after going on a 9-0 run. With the Wolverines trailing 22-21 with 5:05 left in the first half, Michigan-Dearborn would not allow Madonna to score the remainder of the half as the score at halftime was 28-22 in favor of Michigan-Dearborn.

The second half saw both teams make a few runs. After Madonna tied the game with 14:07 remaining, Michigan-Dearborn was able to build a nine point lead at the midway point of the half after a Marcus Williams three-pointer. The Crusaders would respond with a 9-0 run to tie the game with 5:37 remaining. With the game again tied with 4:18 remaining, sophomore Ali Farhat scored five straight points for the Wolverines. Madonna would cut the lead to two points after a Khalil Malone three-pointer. Malone would get to the free throw line with 19 seconds remaining and Madonna trailing by two points. He would make one of two free throws, and the Crusaders were forced to foul. Freshman Deonte Bell would miss the front end of a one-and-one, and Madonna had a chance to take the lead, but Zak Lewis missed the shot and Farhat grabbed the rebound and was fouled. Farhat would make one of two free throws giving the Wolverines a 59-57 win.

Williams led Michigan-Dearborn with 18 points while Farhat had 17 points. The men's basketball team will travel to Ann Arbor on Saturday and take on the Concordia University Cardinals at 3:00pm.
