Men's Basketball Drops Second Consecutive Game

Men's Basketball Drops Second Consecutive Game

Dearborn, MI - There are some people that believe that basketball is a game of runs. That was very evident Saturday afternoon as the visiting Concordia University Cardinals defeated the men's basketball team 75-65. Through almost the first twelve minutes of the first half, the game remained within four or five points. Concordia (8-7, 5-4) was able to open up a seven point lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half. It was at that point Michigan-Dearborn (7-9, 2-6) went on a run that turned a seven point deficit into a four point lead at halftime. Junior Marcus WIlliams scored 12 points in the first half while sophomore Jason Penn scored 10 points.

The second half is where both teams went on a variety of scoring runs. After senior Anthony Barley extended the Wolverines lead to six, Concordia went on a 13-0 run to take a seven point lead. The Cardinals would extend the lead to eight and then Michigan-Dearborn scored seven straight points to pull within one point 52-51. Concordia would respond by scoring 9 of the game's next 12 points to regain a seven point lead. This time the Wolverines would not have an answer as they could not get any closer than six points as Concordia would go on to win 75-65.

WIlliams led the Wolverines with 19 points while Penn added 13 points and 7 rebounds. The men's basketball team will host Lawrence Tech on Wednesday at 7:30pm.
