SYLVANIA, Ohio – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team opened the 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season with a wild game at Lourdes University Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio.

After going to the half tied at one, both teams scored three times in the second to send the game to overtime. The Gray Wolves found the game-winning goal 10 minutes into extra time to escape with a 5-4 win. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 1-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the WHAC.

Lourdes got the scoring started in the 14^th minute, but Gabriella Teems answered six minutes later with her second of the season to even the score for the Wolverines. Lourdes regained the lead early in the second half and made it 3-1 with a goal in the 67^th minute.

The UM-Dearborn offense erupted with Melanie Skamiera netting her first career goal 16 seconds after Lourdes went up by two on an assist from Jenna Rogers. Three minutes later, Rogers found a rebound and put it away to even the game at 3-3.

Marta Andreu gave the Wolverines their first lead of the day with her first career goal, with the assist going to Teems in the 73^rd minute. UM-Dearborn was unable to hold on to the advantage as Abigail Mann scored for a second time in the game with under eight minutes left in regulation to force overtime.

Lourdes got the game-winner as Katie Varney scored directly off the corner kick in the 100^th minute, her second goal of the game.

Rogers finished with six total shots, four on goal, while Skamiera had four shots and three on goal. Jordan Anheuser made six saves in net, while Lourdes outshot UM-Dearborn 23-19. The four goals scored is a program record for the Wolverines.

UM-Dearborn returns home to host Lawrence Tech at 7 pm Wednesday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.
