Wolverines top Maple Leafs 2-1

RIVERVIEW, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team took on Goshen College in a nonconference matchup Saturday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

UM-Dearborn fell behind early in the first half after an own goal gave Goshen College the 1-0 lead. The Wolverines answered with a goal in the final seconds of the first half off of a free kick. UM-Dearborn would go on to take a 2-1 lead in the final 15 minutes, holding off Goshen to move to 1-1-0 on the season.

Junior Madison Day and senior Jenna Rogers were the goal scorers for the Wolverines. Day found space off of a free kick and buried a shot to tie the game with four seconds remaining in the first half. Rogers scored in the 76th minute on a terrific individual effort by beating two Maple Leaf defenders and firing a shot in the top left corner of the goal.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Anheuser made four saves and sophomore Margaret Miller assisted on the first goal for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines were outshot 16-9, while the Maple Leafs had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-1.

UM-Dearborn returns to action at 11 am on Sunday, Sept.15 against Cumberland University at Gabriel Richard High School.
