No. 18 Cumberland tops UM-Dearborn 4-1

RIVERVIEW, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team took on No. 18 Cumberland University in a nonconference matchup Sunday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

Cumberland University scored twice in each half, while the Wolverines broke up the shutout with a goal in the final minutes of the game, making it a 4-1 final in favor of the visiting Phoenix. The loss puts UM-Dearborn's record at 1-2-0.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Anheuser made nine saves in the game. Senior Clare Slamka scored the lone goal for UM-Dearborn. Slamka's goal came off of a free kick where her original shot was blocked, but she gathered the rebound and found the back of the net from inside the six-yard box.

Marie Bathe and Carla Hager were the goal scorers for Cumberland University with two each. Bathe added an assist

The Wolverines were outshot 20-15 while the Phoenix had a slight advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against Adrian College at 11 am on Saturday in Adrian, Mich.
