Wolverines rally for first WHAC win

PONTIAC, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team came away with several firsts in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win over Rochester University Wednesday at Ultimate Soccer in Pontiac, Mich.

The Wolverines broke through in league play for its first WHAC win of the season, rallying from a 2-0 deficit early with three unanswered goals in a 3-2 victory. The win moves UM-Dearborn to 2-12-0 overall and 1-9-0 in the WHAC.

The win is the first in league play this season, the first road win in program history and the first time UM-Dearborn has rallied from a two-goal deficit for a win.

After Rochester scored 80 seconds in, the Warriors made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the game. Claire Slamka answered with her second goal of the season on an assist from Gabriella Teems in the 22nd minute to cut the Rochester lead in half.

The score was evened up in the closing minutes of the first half on the first-career goal from Allison Garrett, with an assist to Katherine Costello. UM-Dearborn went ahead for the first time in the game on the third goal of the season from Teems in the 60th minute, as Costello earned her second assist of the contest.

The UM-Dearborn defense stood tall the rest of the way, as Jordan Anheuser made 11 saves in the victory. Rochester outshot the Wolverines 21-15 and led in corner kicks 7-3.

UM-Dearborn closes the 2019 season against Indiana Tech (5-11-0 overall, 1-8-0 WHAC) on Senior Day at noon Saturday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.
