McCourt, Hodnicki score to lead Wolverines to Win

SYLVANIA, Ohio - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team picked up its second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win of the season, topping Lourdes University on the road Wednesday in Sylvania, Ohio.

The Wolverines got an early goal from Matt McCourt (SR/Trenton, MI) and added a penalty kick score in the second half. The Gray Wolves scored late, but UM-Dearborn held on for the 2-1 victory. The win moves UM-Dearborn to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in the WHAC.

McCourt found the back of the net for his second goal of the season on a cross from Richard Hodnicki (JR/Southgate, MI) in the 20th minute. The Wolverines held a 1-0 lead until Hodnicki executed a penalty kick with 20 minutes to play. The goal was the team-high sixth of the year for Hodnicki, who also now has two assists for the Wolverines this season.

Lourdes got on the board with a goal off the boot of Tyler Rogers with 11:30 left on the clock, but the UM-Dearborn defense shutdown the Gray Wolves the rest of the way.

Lourdes outshot UM-Dearborn 15-5 as Tristan Johnson (FR/Taylor, MI) got the win, making four saves in net.

The Wolverines close the 2016 season on Senior Day against Cornerstone University at 3 p.m. Saturday at Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, Mich.
