BRIGHTON, Mich. - In a tightly contested matchup to open the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team was edged by Marygrove College 2-1 in double overtime Saturday at the Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich.

The Mustangs got on the board first after the teams battled to a scoreless draw heading into the break. Gonzalo Caceres opened the scoring in the 64^th minute with a strike just under the cross bar on a free kick from just outside the penalty area.

The Wolverines took just six minutes to respond when Luke Baker struck a half-volley from just outside the penalty area, looping the ball over the Marygrove goalkeeper and into the back corner of the net. The goal is the first in Baker's young career at UM-Dearborn.

The team's remained tied after 90 minutes and through the first period of overtime. Just over a minute into the second extra session, the Mustangs found the game-winning goal off a corner kick. Curtis Tiapocke flicked home the game winner for Marygrove off an assist from Caceres.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines were held in the game on several occasions by goalkeeper Dylon Da Silva, who made numerous brilliant saves in the first half and down the stretch. Da Silva totaled 10 saves in the loss. UM-Dearborn was outshot 24-6 in the game.

WHAC play continues for the Wolverines against Indiana Tech at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Legacy Center.
