Soccer Kicks Off the Season Thursday August 18th

The men's soccer team officially kicks off the 2016-17 season of athletics as they take on the Rochester College Warriors on Thursday, August 18th, at 1:30pm at the Legacy Center in Brighton. The two teams played each other twice last season and split, with the Wolverines winning 5-0 on September 12th, and the Warriors winning 3-2 on September 22nd.

The Michigan-Dearborn soccer team lost seven seniors from last year's team but recruited eight freshmen including defensemen Grant and Luke Baker (FR/Brownstown, MI) and midfielders Jacob Drzyzga (FR/Grosse Ile, MI) and Deavyn Dishroon (FR/Woodhaven, MI). The soccer team will look to several upperclassmen to lead the team and develop the new players. Junior Richard Hodnicki (JR/Southgate, MI) led the team in goals last season with eight while senior Alek Vasilevski (SR/Shelby Township, MI) had six goals and five assists last season. Senior midfielders John Mertic (SR/Chicago, IL) and Matt McCourt (SR/Trenton, MI) will look to solidify both ends of the field as late in the season last year, the team struggled on both ends of the field. The Wolverines have many choices for goalkeepers as the team returns seniors Erick Beas (SR/Canton, MI) and Aaron Johnson (SR/Ypsilanti, MI) and also returns sophomore Dylan DaSilva. Beas and Johnson split time last year with each goalkeeper playing in ten games. The game will be available online at: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/umdearborn/.
