Saints pull away from Wolverine women in 4th

ADRIAN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team was in a tight battle in the second half with Siena Heights University, but the Saints ran away from the Wolverines in the final quarter in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Adrian, Mich.

The Wolverines were outscored 20-9 in the fourth, falling to the Saints 63-39. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 5-18 overall and 2-13 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn cut a seven-point halftime deficit to one possession with a 3-pointer from Arryn Dochenetz (SO/Livonia, MI) late in the third quarter, but the Wolverines were outscored 30-9 the rest of the way.

The Wolverines were held without a scorer in double figures as Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) netted a team-high eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Dochenetz each added seven points, while Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit, MI) scored six and grabbed five rebounds. In her first game of the season, Marisa Sauve (JR/Dearborn, MI) grabbed five rebounds.

UM-Dearborn shot 15-of-52 from the field, 4-of-20 from deep and 5-of-8 from the line, while totaling seven assists and 17 turnovers.

April Watson controlled the game for the Saints, scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double. SHU finished shooting 20-of-53 from the field, 6-of-19 from behind the 3-point line and 17-of-33 from the free-throw line, while outrebounding the Wolverines 46-33.

UM-Dearborn heads south to take on No. 20 Indiana Tech in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Wayne, Ind.
