Women's Basketball falls in close battle at Roosevelt

CHICAGO - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team allowed a five-point lead slip away late, as Roosevelt University scored the final seven points of the contest Saturday in Chicago.

The Wolverines led 58-53 with 2:21 to go, but a late 3-point play and a miss from Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) in the final minute resulted in a 60-58 UM-Dearborn loss, dropping the team to 2-3 on the season.

After Paige Gallimore made a layup and the tacked on free throw, Swick missed a jumper with 40 seconds left. The Wolverines got one more chance when Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) pulled down a rebound with seven seconds left, but a late turnover ended the game.

Rose led the Wolverines with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while adding five rebounds. Swick finished with double-double, including 13 points and 10 assists. Swick added three 3-pointers, four rebounds and two steals. Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit MI) came off the bench to score nine points, while Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI) and Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) each finished with six.

The Wolverines shot 23-of-61 from the field, 8-of-30 from deep and 4-of-9 from the line. UM-Dearborn finished with 20 assists and 16 turnovers, while losing the rebounding battle 46-37.

Gallimore was the story for the Lakers with 25 points and 12 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Roosevelt shot 19-of-61 from the field, 6-of-21 from behind the 3-point line and 16-of-18 from the line.

UM-Dearborn continues nonconference play against Rochester College at 7 p.m. Monday at the Fieldhouse in Dearborn.
