Wolverines pull away from Tigers for 71-42 win

WYOMING, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team overcame a slow start to pull away from Grace Bible College for a nonconference win on the road Friday in Wyoming, Mich.

The Wolverines outscored the Tigers 40-24 in the second half to earn a 71-42 victory, moving UM-Dearborn to 3-4 overall on the season. The win total for the Wolverines has surpassed the team's total from last year in the first season under head coach Jordan Sweeney.

Jenna Rogers (SO/South Lyon, MI) led the Wolverines with 12 points, including three 3-pointers, while adding three assists. Meredith Williams (JR/Novi, Mich.) finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and adding 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit MI) chipped in with 10 points off the bench, while Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) added eight points. In her first game for the Wolverines after a standout volleyball season for UM-Dearborn, Bri Alspaugh (JR/St.Louis MI) scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 28-of-75 from the field, 8-of-26 from deep and 7-of-17 from the free-throw line.

Baylee Draper led the Tigers with 18 points and 17 rebounds. GBC was 14-of-53 from the field, 2-of-11 from behind the 3-point line and 12-of-19 from the line. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 49-46.

The Wolverines return home to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against No. 8 Davenport University at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
