Wolverines roll in home opener over Crimson Wave

DEARBORN, Mich. - The home opener for the University of Michigan-Dearborn turned into a one-side affair early, as the Wolverines easily toppled Calumet College of St. Joseph Saturday at the Field House in Dearborn, Mich.

The Wolverines had five players score at least eight points, as UM-Dearborn went up early and never looked back, picking up the 73-24 win. The win pushes the Wolverines to 2-1 on the season, matching the team's win total from a year ago.

Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) recorded a team-high 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while adding five rebounds. For the third straight game to open her career, freshman Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit MI) scored in double figures. Jones filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Wolverines.

Olivia Hauser (JR/Redford, MI) was perfect from the field, gong 5-of-5 for 10 points. Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) and Arryn Dochenetz (SO/Livonia, MI) each scored nine points, while Jenna Rogers (SO/South Lyon, MI) added eight. Lauron Sanders (JR/Rochester, MI) was strong on defense for UM-Dearborn, recording five steals.

The Wolverines shot 32-of-71 from the field, 5-of-23 from deep and 4-of-9 from the line. UM-Dearborn won the rebounding battle 41-30, while coming away with 20 assists, 18 steals and forcing 29 Crimson Wave turnovers.

Tenaytia Sanford led CCSJ with nine points, while Janeya Rivers pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. The Crimson Wave was 8-of-52 from the field, 0-of-11 from behind the 3-point line and 8-of-14 on free throws.

The Wolverines hit the road for a matchup with Spring Arbor University at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Spring Arbor, Mich.
