Warriors hold off Wolverines 78-59

DEARBORN, Mich. - Future Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Rochester College shot 57 percent from the field, pulling away from the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team in the third quarter Monday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Warriors scored the first 11 points of the second half to build a 24-point lead over the Wolverines, who made a couple of runs down the stretch, but could not overcome the deficit. Rochester came away with the 78-59 win, dropping UM-Dearborn to 2-4 on the season.

Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit MI) led the Wolverines with 15 points off the bench on 6-of-13 shooting, while adding three assists and two steals. Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) scored 13 points, while Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) added 11, making 9-of-12 free throws. Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Meredith Williams (JR/Novi, Mich.) added six points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The Wolverines finished 19-of-72 from the field, 5-of-25 from deep and 16-of-21 from the line, while posting nine assists and 14 turnovers.

Maddy Valko led the Warriors with efficient outside shooting, scoring 17 points and hitting five 3-pointers. Rochester finished 28-of-49 from the field, 7-of-11 from behind the 3-point line and 15-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Warriors won the rebounding battle 39-33.

UM-Dearborn plays its final tuneup before WHAC action begins at Grace Bible College at 5 p.m. Friday in Wyoming, Mich.
