Wolverines with strong showing at WHAC Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn cross country teams competed at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship Saturday at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Wolverine men set a new program best with a sixth-place finish at the event led by a 15th-place showing from freshman Ryan Exell, who was named the WHAC Male Newcomer of the Year later in the day.

Exell crossed the line with a time of 25 minutes, 32.7 seconds. Fellow freshmen Jarrett St. John and Owen Rowader finished 20th and 23rd, respectively. Demetrius Johnson was 39th and Christopher Silva was 47th for UM-Dearborn.

The Wolverine women finished eighth at the meet, led by sophomore Victoria Hebda, who was 29th in a time of 19:55.3, while sophomore Julia Cercone was 33rd in 20:08.1.

UM-Dearborn will wait to see if any runners qualified for the NAIA Cross Country Championships set for Nov. 17 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
