MVNU completes weekend series sweep of UM-Dearborn

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio  – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team dropped to two one-run games to Mount Vernon Nazarene University, as the Cougars completed a series sweep of the Wolverines Saturday in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

The Wolverines rallied late in game one, with two in the seventh and final inning, but fell short in a 3-2 loss. After UM-Dearborn took a 3-1 lead in the fifth of game two, MVNU answered with three in the sixth. The Wolverines tied the game with a run in the eighth before the Cougars got a walk-off single for the 5-4 win.

The losses drop UM-Dearborn to 3-5 this season, as the fall portion of the schedule is at a close.

Robert Begley drove in both UM-Dearborn runs in game one with a single in the seventh. John Dyda pitched all six innings for the Wolverines, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits, while walking two and striking out four.

Max Tomaszewski put the Wolverines up 3-1 in game two with his first career home run in the fifth, driving in three runs. Down 4-3, UM-Dearborn tied the game on an MVNU error in the eighth. Tomaszewski finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Tyler Koons started for the Wolverines, tossing six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out five. Dan Bos was charged with the loss in relief.

NOTE: The Wolverines played game two under protest starting in the sixth inning after a dispute of an umpire ruling.
