Wolverine baseball closes Florida Trip at Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team concluded its Spring Break trip with three games the over last two days at the Warner Invitational Friday and Saturday in Lake Wales, Fla.

The Wolverines fell to No. 2 St. Thomas University 2-1 in the first of two games on Friday, while dropping a matchup with No. 7 Bellevue University 7-1. In the final game of the event, UM-Dearborn took on Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Siena Heights University on Saturday, as the Saints took the game 10-4.

The Wolverines return home with a record of 7-15 overall.

Against STU, Jacob Leija was strong on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out four. The Wolverines scored its lone run of the game in the seventh on a wild pitch. Ryan Beadle picked up the team's only hit.

Down 2-0 against Bellevue, UM-Dearborn cut the deficit in half with an RBI in the sixth from Beadle, but the Bruins closed the game out with five runs in the seventh. John Dyda took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs, five earned on seven hits, striking out five in 6.1 innings.

Siena Heights took control early in the finale with six in the third and four in the third. Beadle, Shane Fugate, Evan Morin and David Gault-Villareal each picked up an RBI in the loss. Nathan Mack took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs, two earned, on five hits in 1.2 innings.

The Wolverines open the 2020 WHAC season against Siena Heights at 1 pm on Saturday, March 21 in Adrian, Mich. UM-Dearborn will serve as the home team for the doubleheader.
