Wolverines top Pilots 11-6 at RussMatt

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team evened its Florida trip record with a win over Bethel University at the RussMatt Invitational Monday in Auburndale, Fla.

The Wolverines built an early lead and pulled away late for an 11-6 win over the Pilots, improving to 2-2 in Florida and 6-9 on the season.

After Bethel took a 1-0 lead in the second, UM-Dearborn scored three in the third, starting with an RBI double from Ryan Beadle. The Wolverines added two later in the inning on a Bethel error. UM-Dearborn went up 5-1 after RBIs from Patrick Downing and Beadle in the fourth.

Max Tomaszewski drove home two with a single in the sixth, while a pair of wild pitches from the Pilots made it 9-4 in favor of the Wolverines in the seventh. Beadle led the UM-Dearborn offense with two doubles and four walks, while Downing added two hits and two stolen bases.

Tyler Troyer got the start on the mound, allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits in 4.1 innings. Thad Plaza got the win in relief, striking out three, allowing no runs and no hits in 1.2 innings. Clayton Durst picked up the save with three innings of work to close out the win.

The Wolverines play two against Trinity Christian College starting at 10:30 am Tuesday in Auburndale, Fla.
