Wolverine Baseball earns ABCA Academic honor

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team recently picked up a team award following the 2019-20 season, as the Wolverines excelled in the classroom throughout the third campaign for the program.

The American Baseball Coaches Association announced last month that UM-Dearborn baseball was named a 2019-20 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award Winner for the first time in program history.

According to the ABCA, coaches were able to nominate their teams for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award following the conclusion of their spring semesters prior to the nomination deadline of July 17. To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a high school or college team
  • Head coach must be a current ABCA member
  • Teams must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2019-20 academic year (Due to some schools changing to Pass/Fail grading, spring semester grades were not required to be included in the cumulative calculation)

A record 448 total teams were honored this year by the ABCA, with UM-Dearborn among just 29 NAIA programs to receive the award.
