Robert Morris tops UM-Dearborn Baseball in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team continued play in Florida against a familiar opponent, Robert Morris University-Illinois, at the RussMatt Invitational Sunday in Auburndale, Fla.

The Wolverines rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth, but the Eagles scored nine unanswered to top UM-Dearborn 12-4. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 5-9 on the season.

Down 3-0 in the fourth, UM-Dearborn got on the board with a two-run triple from Nathan Mack, who scored later in the inning on an RBI from Evan Morin to tie the game. Shane Fugate picked up an RBI in the eighth for the Wolverines.

Max Tomaszewski finished with two hits, including a double, while Patrick Downing added a double.

Jacob Leija got the start on the mound for UM-Dearborn, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits in three innings, while striking out five. Jack Hook was charged with the loss in relief, allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits.

The Wolverines continue their trip against Bethel University at 4:30 pm Monday in Auburndale, Fla. ­
