LIMA, Ohio – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team traveled to the University of Northwestern Ohio to play a nonconference doubleheader Sunday in Lima, Ohio.
The Racers rallied to top the Wolverines 13-10 in the opener, which included a rain delay, while the second game was suspended due to darkness and will be made up in the spring with a date and time to be determined.
The Wolverines are 3-2 this season after the game one loss.
UM-Dearborn was in control early in game one, building a 6-2 lead in the fifth, but UNOH scored nine unanswered and held off a late Wolverine rally. After falling behind 2-1, Justin Dolney tied the game for the Wolverines in the third with an RBI double.
Dolney kept the offense going in the fourth with a two-run home run, followed by an RBI from Clayton Durst in the fifth to build a four-run lead. The Racers led 11-6 before UM-Dearborn scored three in the eighth to cut the deficit to two. UNOH got a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the inning to hold on for the win.
Andrew Capone and Ryan Beadle each finished with three hits, while Dolney recorded two hits and three RBIs.
John Dyda got the start on the mound for the Wolverines and was strong for four innings before the Racers got their offense going in the fifth. Dyda tossed 4.1 innings, allowing five runs, three earned on four hits, while walking four and striking out five. Cameron Tubbs took the loss in relief.
Game two statistics are not official until the game is completed. The Wolverines lead 2-1 at the start of the seventh.
UM-Dearborn concludes the fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule with three games against Mount Vernon Nazarene University starting with one game at 4 pm Friday in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
