Wolverines Shine in Home Opener

DEARBORN, Mich.-- The University of Michigan-Dearborn (1-0-1) women's soccer team put on a clinic in from of their home fans as they took down the Bluffton Beavers (0-1-0) 5-1 at Star International Academy on Wednesday (Aug 24)

 

Inside the First Half

The Wolverines opened the scoring up in the 23rd minute when Katherine Costello drilled one past the Beaver keeper to open her account on the season. One minute later, the Maize & Blue took complete control of the contest after Gabriella Teems linked up with Brooke McClure to give the Wolverines the 2-0 advantage. The Beavers got one back on the stroke of halftime as they headed into the break down a goal. 

 

Inside the Second Half

UM-Dearborn controlled the second half in its entirety. The Wolverines overpowered the Beaver back line as they played in the final third for most of the half. The Maize & Blue peppered 13 shots in the second half and poured in three goals. Natalie Bicego gave the Wolverines a two-goal lead in the 48th minute as she tucked one into the corner for her first goal. Emmi Pinkowski added a second goal to her account as she weaved through the Beaver defense and slotted one home. Janelle Chammout scored the final goal of the contest in the 63rd minute and gave Coach Easter and his team a well-earned victory. 

 

Up Next

The Wolverines will be back in action on Saturday (Sept 3) as they take on IU South Bend in a home clash at Star International Academy. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
