Wolverines fight hard, but fall to Madonna 2-0

LIVONIA, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team opened up the 2022 WHAC portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon on the road against the Madonna University Crusaders.

The Crusaders controlled play earlier on, forcing Wolverine keeper Amelia Strochine to make some key saves in order to keep the game scoreless. UM-Dearborn would respond with back-to-back scoring chances from Gabriella Teems, however, Madonna University's Holly McManus broke the tie in the 34th minute with an assist going to Kirsten Foor.

The two teams would trade scoring opportunities in the final minutes of the first half, but the Crusaders would connect on a penalty kick as Vitoria Sia gave her team a two-goal lead in the 43rd minute. Despite a late push by the Wolverines, Madonna would hold on for the 2-0 win.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 1-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.

Strochine would finish the contest with seven saves for the Wolverines.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against the Aquinas College Saints at 7 pm Wednesday at Star International Academy in Dearborn, Mich.
