Wolverines split with Saints

ADRIAN, Mich.- The UM-Dearborn softball team returned to action on the road Wednesday afternoon with a double-header against the Siena Heights University Saints in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up.

In Game One, the Wolverines would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, however the Saints would go to get the walk-off win, driving in the winning run with the bases loaded. Leading UM-Dearborn was Amber Cheplick (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, RS) and Marisa Vermiglio (1-3, RS).

Lanie Ellinger got the start on the mound for the Wolverines, going 3.1 innings, while scattering three hits and striking out two. Shae Scott took the loss in relief, going 3.1 innings, while giving up three hits and striking out four. 

Game Two was called due to darkness after nine scoreless innings, but was picked back up on Tuesday, April 4th.

UM-Dearborn would rally for a 2-0 victory in the top of the 13th inning, by loading the bases. Vermiglio would single to right field, driving in two runs.

The first nine innings was highlighted by a pitching duel between Erin McCune for UM-Dearborn and Jordan Green for Siena Heights, with both pitchers picking up where they left off. McCune would get the shutout win in 13 innings of work, while scattering eight hits and striking out five. Green would take the loss in 13 innings, giving up seven hits and striking out 13. 

The series split moves the Wolverines to 10-10 overall and 10-10 in the WHAC.

 UM-Dearborn closes out the regular season with a double-header against Cleary University Friday afternoon starting at 2pm in Howell, Mich.
