Wolverines earn sweep of Warriors

BRIGHTON, Mich.- The UM-Dearborn softball team returned to action  Wednesday afternoon with a double-header against the Indiana Tech Warriors in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up.

In Game 1, the Wolverines scored once in the second inning and twice in the third inning, earning a hard-fought 3-1 win. Leading the UM-Dearborn offense was Shea Scott (2-3, 2B, RS) and Makenna Millhorn (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI). 

Erin McCune got the win on the mound for the Wolverines, going five innings and limiting the Warriors to just two hits. Lanie Ellinger came in to close out the final two innings, earning the save and giving up one hit.

In Game 2, UM-Dearborn used a six-run second inning on its way to a 9-5 win and a series sweep of Indiana Tech. Seven different Wolverines drove in runs in the game, highlighted by the performances of Madelin Skene (2-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 RS), Makenna Millhorn (3-4, 2 2B, RBI, RS), and senior Amy Jarrett (3-3, RBI, 2 RS) who helped start the second inning rally, driving in the first of six runs.

Lanie Ellinger got the win on the mound for UM-Dearborn, going 5.1 innings, giving up seven hits and striking out one. Ashlynn Henderson earned the save going 2.2 innings scattering two hits and adding a strike, while getting the Wolverines out of a jam in the fifth.

UM-Dearborn uses the series sweep to improve its record to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in the WHAC. 

The Wolverines return to action with a double-header against Concordia University at 3:30 and 5:30 pm Friday at Cardinal Softball Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.
