Wolverines pitching shines in sweep of Lourdes

NOVI, Mich.- The UM-Dearborn softball team returned to action Saturday afternoon with a double-header against the Lourdes University Gray Wolves in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up.

The Wolverines offense manufactured four runs, capitalizing on two Lourdes errors, on their way to a 4-0 victory in a fast-paced first game. 

Leading UM-Dearborn was Makenna Millhorn (2-3, 3B, RBI, RS) and Katelyn Sadowski (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) and Marisa Vermiglio (1-3, 2B, RS). Olivia Marasco would also add an RBI as well.

Sodowski got the win on the mound and the complete game shutout for the Wolverines, scattering five Gray Wolves hits, while striking out one.

In Game Two, UM-Dearborn added runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to secure a 5-1 win and a series sweep of Lourdes. Leading the Wolverines was Millhorn (2-3, 2B, RBI), Shae Scott (2-3, RBI), and Gabby Rolak (1-3, RBI). Aspen Starr would add a 2-run pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach for the Gray Wolves.

Senior Ashlynn Henderson threw a gem, getting the win in her final home start of her UM-Dearborn career by going seven innings for the complete game, while scattering seven hits and striking out seven.

The series sweep improves the Wolverines to 9-7 overall and 9-7 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn returns to action with a double-header against the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers Sunday at 1pm and 3pm in Lima, Ohio.
