Wolverines split series with Cardinals

ANN ARBOR, Mich.- The UM-Dearborn softball team returned to action Friday afternoon with a double-header against the Concordia University Cardinals in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up.

In Game 1, despite falling down a run in the opening inning, the Wolverines offense exploded in the second with seven runs on their way to an 8-3 win over the Cardinals. Leading UM-Dearborn was Gina Liss (1-3, 2 RBI, RS), Shea Scott (2-4,HR, 2 RBI, RS), and Aspen Starr (1-3, HR, 2 RBI, RS).

Erin McCune earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game while scattering six hits and striking out three. 

In Game 2, the Cardinals bounced back, adding two runs in the sixth and seventh for a walk-off win over the Wolverines and a split of the series. 

Leading UM-Dearborn was Lanie Ellinger (1-3, RS) and Amber Cheplick (1-2, HR, 2 RBI, BB, RS).

Lanie Ellinger got the start on the mound, giving up four hits and striking out two, while Ashlynn Henderson took the loss in relief, giving up one hit and striking out one.

The split moves UM-Dearborn to 5-3 overall and 5-3 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines return to action against Cornerstone University Saturday afternoon at 1pm and 3pm at Novi High School in Novi, Mich.
