Wolverines swept by Madonna

BRIGHTON, Mich.- The UM-Dearborn softball team returned to action with a double-header against the Madonna Crusaders in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up on Senior Day.

Before Game 1, the Wolverines honored seniors Olivia Cottom, Liz Grumeretz, Megan Lohner, and Samantha Torongeau, who had their seasons cancelled last year. 

Madonna jumped out to a big lead early due to a seven-run second inning. The Wolverines chipped away, cutting the Crusader lead to three in the bottom of the sixth. However, Madonna responded with four more runs in the top of the seventh to clinch a 13-6 win in the opening game. Leading the way for UM-Dearborn was Aspen Starr (1-3, HR, 3 RBI, RS) and Marissa Vermiglio (1-2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB).

Lanie Ellinger took the loss on the mound, giving up 10 hits and striking out two for the Wolverines.

Before Game 2, the Wolverines honored this year's seniors Melissa Charbonneau, Ashlynn Henderson, Amy Jarrett, and Kayla Laquiere

The Wolverines were up by a run after the first, however the Crusaders would go on to score 11 unanswered on their way to a 12-2 win in five innings. 

Leading UM-Dearborn was Makenna Millhorn (1-3, HR, 2 RBI, RS) and Amy Jarrett (1-3, RS). Ashlynn Henderson took the loss on the mound for the Wolverines, giving up six hits and striking out two.

The losses drop UM-Dearborn to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the WHAC. 

The Wolverines return to action with a double-header against Indiana Tech on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 at Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich.
