Wolverines split with Cornerstone

NOVI, Mich.- The UM-Dearborn softball team returned to action Saturday afternoon with a double-header against the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up.

In Game 1, the Wolverines offense erupted, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings on their way to an 11-2 victory in five innings. Leading UM-Dearborn was Shae Scott (3-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 RS), Gina Liss (2-3, 3 RS, BB), and Madelin Skene (2-2, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 RS). Makenna Millhorn and Katelyn Sadowski drove in two runs each, while Amy Jarrett and Holly Kimes each added one.

Sadowski earned the win on the mound going five innings for the complete game, while scattering eight hit and striking out two.

In Game 2, Cornerstone scored six times in the third and added four more in the seventh to split the double-header with the Wolverines. Leading UM-Dearborn was Makenna Millhorn (2-2, 2B, 3 RBI, BB) and Madelin Skene (2-3, 2B, 2 RS).

Ashlynn Henderson took the loss on the mound for the Wolverines, going 2.1 innings, while giving up eight hits and striking out one. Lanie Ellinger pitched 4.2 innings, giving up seven hits and striking out three in relief. 

The series split moves UM-Dearborn to 6-4 overall and 6-4 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines return to action with a double-header against Aquinas College Sunday at 1pm and 3pm at Novi High School in Novi, Mich.
