Wolverines and Blue Devils split a pair

BRIGHTON, Mich.- The UM-Dearborn softball team returned to action  Wednesday afternoon with a double-header against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up.

In Game 1, the Wolverines held a one-run lead, however the Blue Devils would used a two-run home run in the fourth and a three-run fifth to secure a 6-2 victory over UM-Dearborn. Leading the Wolverines was Gina Liss (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) and Marisa Vermiglio (1-2, RS, BB). 

Erin McCune took the loss on the mound for UM-Dearborn, going 3.2 innings, while giving up six hits and walking two. Lanie Ellinger came in to pitch 2.1 innings in relief, giving up one hit, while striking out three and walking three.

In Game 2, the Wolverines bounced back, scoring two in the fifth and three in the sixth on their way to a 7-0 win and a series split. Leading UM-Dearborn was Vermiglio (4-4, 2B, RBI, 2 RS), Amber Cheplick (3-4, RBI, RS), and and Liss (2-4, 2 RBI, RS).

Katelyn Sadowski went the distance, earning the win and the complete game, scattering seven hits and walking one.

The series split moves the Wolverines to 7-7 overall and 7-7 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn returns to action with a double-header against Lourdes University 1pm and 3pm Saturday at Novi High School in Novi, Mich.
