Exell sets program record, leads Wolverines in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's cross country team competed in one of the largest events of the season, putting together an outstanding showing in the Louisville Classic Saturday at Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.

The Wolverines finished sixth out of 57 teams, including programs from across all levels of the NCAA and NAIA. UM-Dearborn was seven spots better than No. 21 Aquinas College and nine ahead of Indiana Tech.

Sophomore Ryan Exell led the Wolverines, breaking his own program record with a time of 25:18.8 in the 8K race, finishing in 30th place individually.

Reigning Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Runner of the Week Josh Mussen was 42nd overall with a time of 25:33.9, while Josh Williams was 97th in a time of 26:16.9. John-Romeo Gaton, and Jarrett St. John were 133rd and 134th, respectively in the field of 515 runners.

UM-Dearborn is off for three weeks before competing at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, a preview for the WHAC Championship Meet, Oct. 26 at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich.
