NAIA Honors Swept by Wolverine Lacrosse

DEARBORN, Mich. – One day after sweeping the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference weekly awards, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team was awarded two honors by the NAIA as a result of its win over No. 6 Siena Heights University on Saturday.

Senior attackman Devon Callaghan was named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman faceoff specialist Dillon Beal picked up the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week award, it was announced Tuesday.

The honors are first for each student-athlete, first for the men's lacrosse program and the first for any student-athlete at UM-Dearborn since Kassidy Butler won the award for softball in 2017.

UM-Dearborn is also receiving votes in the NAIA Top-10 Poll for the first time this season.

Callaghan led the Wolverine offense with seven goals and an assist, helping his team storm out to an early 7-0 lead over the Saints. In three games this season, Callaghan has 17 goals and two assists, while ranking first in the NAIA in goals per game at 5.67. He is just four goals away from 100 for his career.

Beal continues to dominate at the faceoff X for the Wolverines in his first season. He was a staggering 28-of-34 on face-offs against the Saints, including one in the final seconds of regulation to set up the game-winning goals, which he earned the assist on.

Beal also totaled a UM-Dearborn team record 22 ground balls. He leads the NAIA with 12.60 ground balls per game and is fifth in faceoff winning percentage at 68.7 percent.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against No. 3 Indiana Tech at 5 pm Wednesday at the Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich.
