COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn lacrosse team scored five times in the fourth quarter to force overtime on Saturday against Columbia College in Columbia, Mo.
Goals from Adam Ranck and Ben Phillips in the final minute of regulation tied the score at 8-8. The Wolverines had a man up advantage early in overtime but failed to capitalize, before the Cougars scored to win 9-8, dropping UM-Dearborn to 0-4 on the season.
Micah Rinke led the Wolverine offense, scoring four times, including the first three goals of the game for UM-Dearborn. The junior led the Wolverines with 13 shots and has started the season with 10 goals through four games. Adam Ranck added two goals and the game-tying assist late in regulation, while Alex Gjokaj and Phillips finished with one goal.
Faceoff specialist Dillon Beal won 18-of-20 faceoffs, including two crucial matchups in the final moments of regulation to help UM-Dearborn tie the game. The freshman recorded two assists.
In goal, Jay Rupnow made 20 saves for UM-Dearborn as the Cougars outshot the Wolverines 48-37.
UM-Dearborn open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against Siena Heights University at 2 pm, Saturday, Mar. 23 at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse in Beverly Hills, Mich.
