Matthew Laurinec began his collegiate lacrosse career at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2007, following a successful high school career at Troy Athens, where he earned First Team All-State honors in 2006. At UM-Dearborn, Laurinec quickly established himself as one of the program's most accomplished players during its early years as a club sport. He played for the Wolverines from 2006 to 2010, earning CCLA All-Conference honors in 2007. Laurinec was
named UM-Dearborn's Player of the Year in both 2006 and 2008 and served as team captain from 2008 to 2010.

He graduated in 2013 with a Bachelors degree in Journalism and a Minor in Public Relations, later earning a degree in Sports Psychology. After graduation, Laurinec began his coaching career at Troy Athens, serving as an assistant coach from 2010 to 2016. In 2017, he returned to UM-Dearborn as an Assistant Coach, where he manages all aspects of the Wolverine Defense and serves as the Director of Operations.

A resident of the Metro Detroit area, Laurinec works as a Marketing Account Manager and provides color commentary for UM-Dearborn basketball and hockey games. He is also the Head Lacrosse Coach for the Livonia United High School team. On the national stage, Laurinec represents the NAIA on the IMLCA Technology Committee and serves as the NAIA Assistant Coaches Representative on the IMLCA Assistant Coaches Committee.
