WOLVERINES SWEEP CARDINALS ON SENIOR NIGHT
 
DETROIT – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team earned the first sweep and series win in program history, taking two from Concordia University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday in Detroit.

The games were played at the Corner Ballpark at PAL Field, which sits on the site of old Tiger Stadium in Detroit's historic Corktown District.

The Wolverines held on for an 11-10 win in a high-scoring opener, led by four hits from Chase Turner (SR/Franklin, MI), who was honored in a ceremony between games on the program's first Senior Night. John Dyda (FR/Wyandotte, MI) pitched the first complete game in program history in game two, leading UM-Dearborn to a 4-1 win.

The sweep moves the Wolverines to 8-28 overall and 6-22 in the WHAC.

In the opener, Concordia got an inside the park home run in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Wolverines answered quickly with one in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch. Andrew Capone (FR/Warren, MI) tied the game on an RBI groundout in the second before Shaun Hannibal (FR/Brighton, MI) hit a two-run home run to put the Wolverines up 4-2.

Concordia took the lead with two in the third and one in the fourth, but the Wolverines broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 11-5 lead. The inning started with an RBI double from Turner, followed by a two-run single from Ryan Beadle(SO/Kalamazoo, MI). Waymond Lemon Jr. (JR/Detroit, MI) hit the first grand slam in program history sending a blast over the left-field fence with the bases loaded.

The Cardinals scored the next five runs of the game but Malcolm Harris (FR/Detroit, MI) got the final three outs in the ninth to earn his first career save. Dan Bos(FR/Livonia, MI) picked up his second win of the year on the mound, tossing six innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 13 hits, while walking three and striking out one.

Turner led the offense, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Daniel Kerr (JR/Macomb, MI) reached base four times, going 3-for-4 with a walk.

Dyda recorded the first complete game in Wolverine baseball history in game two, nearly completing a shutout before Concordia got on the board in the ninth. He tossed nine innings, allowing one run on five hits,while walking two and striking out seven to move to 4-6 on the season.

The UM-Dearborn offense took control early. After Capone led off the game with a triple, he came home on a double from Hannibal, who scored later in the inning on an RBI from Kerr. Antonio Carta (SO/Allen Park, MI) made it 3-0 for the Wolverines with an RBI double. Capone added an RBI in the second to extend the lead to four. Carta finished with two hits for UM-Dearborn.
